Average Or Not, You’re Going Straight To The Bottom

Over the last week we, at HaltDown, have seen the piece surface at various places. Bussiness Insider (of course), Hacker News (couldn’t miss it), LinkedIn (that was a surprise – we’re just being cynical) and various techies blogs.

The essence of the piece* is that if you are average on whatever you do you’re boned. Why? But because there is no room for average shit like you anymore. There is only room for exceptional workers and thinkers (sic) of the Jobs class and above. So, get this straight motherfucker, if you’re unemployed or underpaid IT’S YOUR FAULT FOR YOU ARE NOT EXCEPTIONAL. Got it bitch?

What a load of crap. No, really! What a stinky load of crap coming out of the mouths of totally unexceptional people like useless managers and failed economists that got us all into a huge economic mess and recession. It’s the same bunch of people that wet their pants whenever they manage to get another bunch of jobs out of a western country and  assigned to a bunch of slaves in China or India or wherever. Now, these very same people, are seeing the reality upside-down and want you to see it that way too. Well – they get paid really good money for that sociopath view of the state of affairs (which by the way is the only exceptional about them). Do you get paid to see the world upside down?

Wanna a bite of reality that you will never browse with your i-Jail ? We’re not post-Industrial society. We will never be as long as there is at least one car on the road. And without cars you get no food so it’s good to not be in a post-industrial world. Post-industrial for you means that industry and the jobs that come with it are just somewhere else. When those things get somewhere else, unemployment gets where you are. That’s the reason why many people are going to bottom and not their not being exceptional.

Wanna another bite which gonna hurt a bit more? Why is it that our technological and industrial capabilities skyrocket but at the same time more and more people hit the bottom to the point of starving to death or living in poverty and misery? Why as a species we can feed more, work less, enjoy life more but instead we get more hunger, more work for less money and more misery? Why these top tier managers and economists won’t say a fucking word about this HUGE controversy between what’s feasible and what’s actually being done?

The bitter truth is that they won’t say a thing because their line of thought is busted by reality but they’ve invested too much on this failing system that they can’t do anything but support it no matter how crazy it gets. They’ve been sipping this wine for so long and it served their bank accounts so well that they might honestly believe that it’s the right thing to do. That the whole process of eliminating average Joes might even be God’s will. Never underestimate the lengths that, otherwise good, people can go to defend their world view (an extreme example of that were Nazis who weren’t “bad” people – other than killing Jews and left wings and everyone else that stood in their way they had perfectly normal personal lives).

So please, please be very careful when you replay such kind of propaganda through your blogs or social media. At least try to think about it twice when you stomach the point of view that comes with that seemingly innocent career advice.
